Just Plain Wonderful - Scrap Our Stash Pick Your Side Challenge

Hello, everyone! Happy Thursday to you!

Today I am sharing my take on this month's Scrap Our Stash Pick Your Side Sketch Challenge. For this challenge, you are to pick either the left side of the sketch or the right side of the sketch to base your layout on. Along with the sketch challenge you are to use a scalloped edge embellishment on your layout - this can be a scalloped circle, border, tag, journaling card, etc.  Here's a look at this month's sketch:

For my layout, I have chosen the right side of the sketch, added a scalloped edge to my photo mats, and added a few scalloped circle embellishments.

I've had these photos of Ada out on my desk for a while and I am happy to get them scrapped! I wanted to keep with the coral/pink tones of her outfit and found this pink and white paper from Echo Park and the heart paper from Simple Stories and thought they worked well with each other.

I changed up a couple of things from the sketch - I widened the piece of patterned and moved it in from the edge of the sketch and I left off the half-circle piece, tags, and banner pieces. I tried adding the half-circle but I just didn't like it and with having the scalloped edge on my photo mat, there really wasn't a place for the banner pieces. And the tags...I completely forgot I was going to add them until after I had already glued down my title. I do plan on adding a few lines of journaling under the right photo - even if it's just the date and Ada's age, etc.

Here are a couple of close-ups:

I really love making these multi-layered embellishments! If you don't mind a lot of bulk, adding in some foam tape between each layer is really cute, too, but I just left this one flat - I just added foam tape to the bottom layer to attach it to my layout.

Storytime With Grandma - Scrap Our Stash Pick Your Side October Challenge

Hello, hello! Happy Monday to you! I hope your week is off to a good start.

It's time to share my take on this month's Pick A Side Sketch Challenge at Scrap Our Stash! Here's a look at the sketch that we had to choose from:

Along with picking either the left or right side of the sketch, we are also required to include twine, at least one tag, and one tab on our layout. Here is what I came up with:

I used one of my October Counterfeit Kit add-on kits along with one of the papers in my main kit for this layout.

I came across these photos of my mom reading a story to Matthew when he was maybe 2 years old. My mom has been gone for 6 years now and I still find it a little hard to scrap photos of her, but it is getting easier. She loved spending time with all of her grandkids and a quiet moment like this one was always her favorite.

I used the left side of the sketch for my layout. I added a tag with twine behind the photo. I left the tag blank for now. I think I will journal just the basics on the tag and then write more detailed journaling on the back of the layout. I also included a tab on the right side of the photos.

Here are a couple of close-ups:

You're Never Too Old For Toys - Scrap Our Stash

Hello, everyone! Happy Hump Day! I can't believe it is the middle of the week already. The weekend will be here before we know it!

It's time for the second half of the Scrap Our Stash design team to reveal their takes on the July - Pick Your Side Sketch Challenge today. Here is a look at the double-page sketch that we had to pick a side from:

Along with the sketch we have an added challenge to use 5+ patterned papers and twine on your layout. Here is what I came up with:

I used the left side of the sketch for my layout. It was perfect for the photos that I wanted to use.

I've used my August Counterfeit Kit that I put together for the first of the month. You can see my kit and read all about it here. All of the papers are from my kit with the exception of the red paper. I didn't have much red in my kit that didn't have pink it so I dug into my scrap box and found this red paper.

You can see my 5 different patterned papers in the photo below - a blue stripe, blue dot, arrow paper, red paper, and the fifth paper is found in the banner - a blue star paper. I punched 5 pinked edge circles from the different papers and folded them in half to create my banner

I punched a few tiny stars to scatter around the page.

About the layout - these photos are from Scott's birthday last year. Matthew had come up with a great idea for a birthday present - a Deadpool figure - something that Scott always looked at but would never purchase on his own. Matthew knew it would look perfect in his Dad's 'Nerd Nook' (his gaming room). Scott was so surprised and thrilled with the gift. He even posted a photo of Deadpool standing beside his birthday cake with a caption of - "You're never too old for toys!" - which was the perfect title for this layout.

I love how this layout turned out and it just may be one of my favorites this year!

Sweet Summer Fun - Scrap Our Stash Pick Your Side Sketch Challenge

Hello, everyone! Good Sunday morning to you! I hope you are having a good weekend. It's been so hot around here but there is a promise of a cool down later today or tomorrow.

It's time for the second half of the Scrap Our Stash design team to reveal their takes on the July - Pick Your Side Sketch Challenge today. Here is a look at the double-page sketch that we had to pick a side from:

Along with picking one side of the sketch to create our layout, we had the added challenge of using wood or wood veneers on your layout. I chose the sketch on the left and here is what I came up with:

I have used Echo Park's "Playground" collection for my layout. The papers were perfect for these photos of Ada playing at the park this summer.

For the added challenge of using wood or wood veneer on our layouts, I pulled out some old wood veneer pieces that I (mostly) got from an old Gossamer Blue grab bag. The love arrow may be from Freckled Fawn, but I could be wrong.

Here are a couple of close-ups:

For my title, I stamped "sweet summer" from Elle's Studio Title Builder Vol. 3 stamp set and then fussy cut the words out. I die cut the word "fun" out of one of the patterned papers using my Close To My Heart alphabet dies.

I'm sure you will be seeing these photos again soon. They are part of Ada's Summer Bucket List and I plan on making her a traveler's notebook of all the fun things she's marked off of her list this summer.

Be sure to check out the Scrap Our Stash blog to see which side of the sketch the rest of the design team picked. I hope you have a chance to play along with us this month!
